I took a botanical sketching course recently, and had such a nice time learning how to draw flowers. I haven’t figured out how to draw my own flowers, from the garden, but these were an enjoyable first attempt, aided by a teacher as she drew cosmos from a live flower.

I’m not sure I developed any skills that will help me with my own botanical sketches from live flowers from my garden, but I do know that all art begins, and ends as well, I think, with observation.

Now, onto another week of learning how to do something I’ve never done before, or improving a skill…fearlessly. Nobody ever has to see inside our sketchbooks! But it may be that we discover we can create something beautiful.
