So, tell me, do you struggle with schedules and calendars and clocks as I do?

Do you wake up with the rooster or stay awake with the rooster? (As anyone with a rooster knows, roosters crow when they feel like it, not just in the early morning).

Do you follow a daily routine that is scheduled to the minute, or do you prefer blocks or benchmarks of time? Or do you just live your day, as it comes at you?

My greatest struggle with myself is my lack of a schedule. This makes for all sorts of spontaneous fun, but I feel like I’m supposed to have a schedule, that I need a schedule. Yet, we’re all happy and fed and clothed and the house stays pretty neat, and the kids are bright and smart. So do we really need to be all strict with ourselves? I’m started to wonder if I shouldn’t just embrace this as a part of me, and let go of worrying over it.
What do you think?
hey there!
been reading your blog since the camping trip and when i read this this morning, i thought i’d share this website with you. i am not implying that you struggle to keep your house clean, lol. this site seems to be more than that, so check it out while you’re still unable to get around as much. just be aware, if you “become a member”, they send you a TON of emails everyday. not advertisements, just reminders and blog posts, etc…

I’m with you girl. I think that I am suppose to hyper schedule my day to get everything done. When I do I only fail to be able to stick to it. You know lots of littles will keep you from keeping a schedule. However, when I think back on our days we have a routine of sorts. We do some of the same things everyday at about the same time. I think that’s a schedule.
I like to be spontaneous. Our “schedule” works for us. I have made a habit of waking up and asking God to show me the priorities for the day. What needs to be done. He has a way of telling me just the thing and never tells me to accomplish too much. He is always realistic. Thus freeing me from guilt. I say good riddance to guilt and do what works for your family. It sounds like your routine works for you and the kids and you’re all thriving. Keep up the good work.
Embrace it! That’s what I do. 🙂 Sometimes it catches up with me, though. I need to get a system in place so I don’t forget important appointments and events. But I like not being overly scheduled. 🙂
LOL….I had to chuckle at your note as you are scheduled in your own way!!! I don’t really schedule as I have learned to be flexible when things happen that aren’t on MY agendy!! GOD has a way of changing things daily!!
I like having a flexible schedule, but not everyone needs to be scheduled all of the time. I think it goes along with personality and sometimes seasons of your life.
I couldn’t live without a schedule but I admit that I’m really pretty OCD when you get right down to it. Gosh. If the spontaneity thing works for you, why change it? No sense in messing up a good thing right? 🙂
I will agree with “Such the Spot”, in that I’m rather OCD myself and I NEED a schedule, or I feel like I’m drowning. I tried just “winging” it for awhile, and I was not functioning well. I feel so busy all the time, and it helps me relax when I know there is a set time to do the laundry, dishes, etc. Then I can just relax and enjoy the kids when I am supposed to. Again, I admit to being rather OCD in my tendencies.
I think if being spontaneous works for you, just embrace it. 🙂 Each to his own. Whatever works!
Okay…I’ve waited a couple days to comment here because I am SO up and down with this myself. I’ve been reading your blog for quite some time…God led me to stumble upon it once while looking for a friend’s blog….it must have been God because I landed on your blog which is NO WHERE NEAR the one I was looking for, LOL! I LOVE reading and look forward with anticipation to each post. Education surrounds you, my friend…and it shows. Like the lizard you posted about today…I would have tried to scare it away (I have no boys, LOL) and yet you captured it on camera and then looked it up online and truly studied and learned about it. How great! And done in such a fun way that I’m sure your kiddos are not going to soon forget what they’ve learned. I, like you posted on my blog, am like you…I shine from 9pm-midnight. Those are my best hours…my “me time.” But then, I miss the good hour of 7am. I need my 8 hours. Starting the day late, for me, seems to ruin the rest of my day. Whatever you are doing seems to be working really well for you! What kind of curriculum do you use for homeschool? Or do you “unschool?” Our curriculum seems to tie us down a bit, which can be frustrating, but I don’t trust myself to educate my children well enough by just winging it…but more creative people, like yourself, do it amazingly!!!
I don’t know if this helps or not, but I hope so. I think you are an amazing mother/teacher/blogger friend. :o) Keep up the “JustPureLovely” work!
