Yesterday I wrote about inspiration, but lately, to be honest, I’m not inspired by much. Instead, it’s more like I’m just capturing things I read and sticking them in my back pocket for a (hopefully soon) day when I’ll feel inspired.
Today, though, and for the past few months since I fell from a stair – yes, just a stair – and tore ligaments in my left ankle, my life has been off balance, literally. I tore those ligaments to nothingness since it’s been almost 4 months and the thing still swells daily and won’t bend enough to jog or do squats.
And so I’ve been discouraged lately. Not because of the squats and jogging – I am happy to have an excuse to not do those – but just a general discouragement of wanting to do things. Things like kayaking, jumping on the trampoline with the kids, going on a shopping marathon, and even just enjoying one full day of no pain. You know, things. My exuberancy, if I ever did possess that, is affected and I’m a bit down.
Even though I don’t like limping around I know that life can deliver harder knocks.
So, with a past-hard-knocks perspective that reminds me I do have it good, I’m focusing on keeping life simple enough to heal while enjoying a few things that help me when I get a bit down. Today, one of those things was a cuddle on the living room floor with our two littlest ones and A.A. Milne and Ernest Shepherd, or, rather, with their cuddly characters, Pooh, Christopher Robin, and Piglet. Oh, and Eeyore visited with us, too. His grumpiness when life is just fine tickles me. I got an even ticklier tickle watching our little guy giggle when I read,
“Hallo, Eeyore, how are you?” asked Christopher Robin.
“It’s snowing still,” said Eeyore gloomily.
“So it is.”
“And freezing.”
“Is it?”
“Yes,” said Eeyore. “However,” he said, brightening up a little, “we haven’t had an earthquake lately.”
It’s true, now that Eeyore reminds me of it, we haven’t had an earthquake lately, either. There is that to be thankful for, and so much more, including – definitely including – the pot of tea and two English Toffee chocolates at my side as I write.
I hope your day brightens up. I have fallen off of ONE step before and may as well have fallen off of ten. It’s so hard to sit back and not do the things we enjoy. NOT because we don’t want to but because we can’t.
Lori,
Oh, I so feel your pain (of the soul)! Even amoungst bountiful blessings from above, it is sometime (okay, often) difficult to keep a positive outlook on our lives. I commend you for trying to focus on the wonders and blessing of your life and keep your life simple to help yourself to heal! Just take it a day at a time and remember there are many people that care about you and wish you only the very best in life.
You are an inspiration – even if I only know you through your blog! Your honesty and out-reached hand are comforting in this not-always-so-warm-and-fuzzy world that we live in. Your photos are beautiful and bring an inner peace to me and your words are like a great big hug.
God will soon bless you with a more inspirational view of life and your inner happiness with shine through in all parts of your life. As I sit here this morning I say the following prayer for you:
“May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious unto thee. May the Lord lift up His countenance upon you and grant you peace. Amen.”
You are in my thoughts and prayers. I am also sending you a great big, warm hug!!
Sincerely,
Katherine
Hugs and prayers from across the atlantic!
Hang in there, girl! We all go through little “funks” here and there. Keep your chin up and remember that “this too, shall pass.”
YOU inspire your mom with just your writing. I love you tons and wish I could be there and rub that foot a little. I can just hear you reading to the kids…..full of different voices for each character. YOU are a great MOM!!
Oh, we love Eeyore too, he does have an amazing way of putting things in perspective. You have so many wonderful gifts and blessings, now is the time to slow down and enjoy them. That foot WILL heal, just enjoy your slow pace for now, it won’t last forever.
Ah, girl, I feel for you. No mom likes being laid up, that’s for sure. You are such a blessing to those of us out here, though, just like Katherine said. We love you and are sending tons of virtual hugs your way!!! ((((((((((((Lori)))))))))))))
