burn the ships

journal

15 Nov

A childhood friend and I texted late into the night recently.  We had a heartfelt discussion on how much things that happened when we were children still affect us decades later.

As children, we were faced with bigger trials than our children will know and the consequence is that we’ll never get over it.

Most of us, maybe all of us, have ships to burn. So it was really good timing for me to have For King & Country come out with their song and music video the day after I texted my childhood friend.

I sent her a link to the music video along with this:

Burn the ships,

cut the ties

send the flame into the night

say a prayer

turn the tide

dry your tears

and wave goodbye

Burn the  Ships by For King & Country

It’s not easy, and for me, the ships have to be burned again and again (or maybe it’s that I never fully burned them at all).

But we can do this! We can burn those ships.
